Let’s get real—keeping up with friends is not as simple as it once was. People get busy, people get relocated, and next thing you know you have a surprise free night. So what’s the solution? Sit on the couch doom scrolling Instagram?
Nah. It’s time to flip the script.
Rather than waiting around for others, why not date yourself? Solo dates may feel uncomfortable initially (hi there, restaurant awkwardness), but they’re an art you should practice. With a dash of intention, they become something you’ll long for—an opportunity to charge up and connect with you.
Solo dates aren't lonely—they're a choice. Whether you're in a new phase of life or simply longing for more intention, these times have the potential to reset your mind and ignite creativity.
Let’s see how you can enjoy being with your own self—meaningfully, on your own terms.
1. Tiny Solo Dates (15–60 min)
At Home:
Snuggle up with a good book and your favorite mug.
Mini self-care recharge: Eye mask, essential oil therapy, or stretching.
Make a mood playlist and tune in around for an instant pick-me-up.
Creative time: Painting, Sculpting, Crocheting, or create FIMO Jewelry.
15–20 minute session of yoga, stretching or meditation.
Learn something new about investing (15–20 minutes).
Outdoors:
Take yourself on a long, aimless walk.
Go to a farmer’s market.
Treat yourself to a fancy drink (alcoholic or not)..
Take a walk around your neighbourhood without a destination in mind.
Go into a store that you've never entered before.
Treating yourself with flowers, simply because.
2. Half-Day Solo Dates (1–4 hours)
At Home:
Renew your apartment/balcony/garden with plants.
Spa treatment: Self-Massage, Manicure & Pedicure, or Sculpt Oil Treatment.
Take an innovative online workshop or class (AI-Powered Design or Digital Illustration).
Experiment with a new recipe. Prepare a meal, light some candles, and enjoy it.
Outdoors:
Go see a movie by yourself and appreciate the experience.
Take a swim or have a session of sauna to relax.
Go on a visit to a museum or gallery: Stand before a single artwork that resonates with you.
Café-hopping: Go around the city and visit various cafés to taste a range of coffees or cakes.
Take a walk and imagine your ideal life, and then write it up when you return.
3. Full-Day Solo Dates (4+ hours)
At Home:
Prepare a three-course dinner for yourself, get dressed up, and make it a ceremony.
Take a few hours and engage in a creative activity like painting, ceramics, or journaling.
Full day off the grid: no phone, no distraction—soak in your own world.
Make a vision board using images.
Redo your apartment or revamp a room: Rearrange, refurbish, or give a full makeover to one area to make it inspire and feel brand new.
Outdoors:
Take a road trip to a nearby city you have not visited before.
Make an appointment with a spa, a beauty parlor, or a hairdresser and spend the entire day getting pampered.
Day excursion to a nature reserve or a lake to relax and rejuvenate.
Special activities such as sailing, surfing, trail running, or rock climbing.
Take a nature hike alone and disconnect entirely from your daily routine.
Solo dates give you the opportunity to escape the daily routine, go out of your comfort zone, and learn new hobbies or skills. Whether you're at home or traveling the world, these moments tend to make you learn more about yourself and learn to adapt to new things.
